About Bay of Life

 

Started in 2011, Bay of Life Surf School is Chennai’s first surf school. It is the only surf school in Tamil Nadu accredited by SFI (Surfing Federation of India) and SWAT (Surfing and Watersports Association of Tamil Nadu). 
We Conducted India’s first Surf and Stand Up Paddle Camp in Kovalam, Chennai in 2011. 
It's been an honour to be the first Surf School in India to conduct  Adaptive paddle sessions for the physically challenged, first in South Asia to conduct such sessions for people with cerebral palsy.
a resident Wilderness First Responder certified trainer from NOLS, Wyoming, USA and all trainers are certified in basic life support.


 

 

About the founders

Madhumathi Ravi

Combining years of advertising and branding experience and her deep passion for environmental conservation, Madhumathi Ravi laid the foundation for Bay of Life in the year 2011.Her vision was to create a ‘for-profit social enterprise’ focusing on sustainable business models, to provide alternate livelihoods for local communities and help preserve natural environments. 

 

Showkath Jamal

A seasoned entrepreneur and a free-spirited adventure lover with a wide range of interests – ranging from law to herpetology. His many years of association with the people of Kovalam - stretching from pre-tsunami to post-tsunami times, paved the way for setting up Bay of Life Surf School in the village of Kovalam.
